Deep Space Corona Nine?
I am a fan of the television series “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” – as I’m sure some of you are. I couldn’t help thinking about Quark’s bar during the beginning and ending of this story. That’s a good thing, because there is something cool about a shady bar and a somewhat sleazy bar tender that makes for a good story! If you’ve seen any DS9 episodes then you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Non-Spoiler Summary

Angel by Madison Berndt, CC 2.0 license

Nata prides herself on being one of the best smugglers around, so when a nervous client delivers some strange boxes for delivery she just wants to be done with the trip as quickly as possible. But as she is jacked into her ship’s sensors, the human cargo get out and hijack her vessel. There is a small problem for the would-be-captors however: since Nata is blind she has seriously altered her ship, and now the other humans can’t pilot it! Ha – who’s laughing now suckahs! Oh, but they can coerce her to fly for them… at least until they come across some suspicious border guards.

My Two Cents

  • Story: 4 stars – This was a cool story, however, in my humble opinion, it could have been a bit better. I really wanted to know more about the hijackers and why they were running. I loved the Traveler though!
  • Writing: 4 stars – I liked the tone set by Nata’s personality, and all her colorful descriptions. However, there were too many F-bombs for my liking. But hey – I guess that’s smuggler talk for you huh!
  • Fun Factor: 3 stars – I have to give this story just an average rating for fun, because I felt like I kept reading in order to find out something big about the hijackers. Unfortunately, that never came.
