"Survival Tactics" is a 1958 science fiction short story by Al Sevcik. It is about a man who must fight against killer robots to save an important space mission.

War in the Jungle

Jungles can be fascinating places, but they can also be deadly. I can’t imagine fighting for my life in the middle of the night, in a strange jungle, against killer machines – but the protagonist of this story can!

Alan is part of the first wave of settlers on a new jungle planet. He and a handful of other men have come down to clear out the area and make it ready for the main group of settlers who will be arriving in a few days. Between the overgrown jungle, the pesky insects and the dangerous animals Alan realizes that this job isn’t too fun. But when one of his crew mates makes a small error while building the robots things get a lot worse. Now Alan has to race against both time and the deadly environment to save the entire mission!
