Description of Story:
This is an unusual and odd little tale that brings to mind the colorful poetics of Ray Bradbury and echoes of the imagery in early Arthur C Clarke works.
It’s set on a world that rotates so quickly the nights and days last only four hours each. The odd little place contains cities called Dreamlands, orange sands and silver waterways with twin moons constantly racing low overhead. And of course, there’s the Diamond Rain.
The main characters are a boy and a girl who live for the night and fully appreciate their strange surroundings in which they find themselves. The imagery is both beautiful and compelling and makes you feel you are part of a futuristic Monet painting, or in a dream with the color turned up.
There are unanswered questions and curiosities that leave you wanting to know more. But this, I think, is part of the charm and leaves open possibilities and futures to imagine one night when it rains and you find yourself thinking of this world and its wonders.
