Do you like reading but don’t have enough time to read everything you want? How does reading a story (or book for that matter) in 5 minutes a day sound? You may be surprised how convenient that really is! If you are interested then DailyLit.com is the place for you.
I discovered DailyLit.com a couple of years ago when I was able to read Cory Doctorow’s short story collection A Place So Foreign and Eight More in small 5-minute chunks via email. And the amazing part – it was completely free!
Here’s what they do: they take a book and divide it up into many small sections which can be read in 5 minutes each. Then they email those sections to you everyday and you read them. The idea is that given enough time you will be able to read entire books that you may not have otherwise read. (You know, the “eat an elephant one bite at a time” concept.) I was surprised at how convenient it turned out to be, and before I knew it I had read several very cool books. You can read the book chunks in email or RSS, and they allow you to set the schedule for when you want the sections delivered. And if you find yourself with extra time on your hands one day that is no problem either – just request an immediate delivery of the next installment. Nifty huh?
DailyLit.com has books in several categories, with the science fiction category currently sporting 53 books. While most of the books are free, you do have to pay to read some of them. In addition to Cory Doctorow’s stories, here are some other ones that may be of interest:
- Burn by James Patrick Kelly
- The Cold Equations and Other Stories by Godwin and Flint
- The World Turned Upside Down by Drake and Flint
Anyway, if this sounds like something you may be interested in then be sure to check out DailyLit.com. It’s a very convenient way to read SF short stories!
