Merry Christmas!
What could be better than a couple of Christmas themed science fiction short stories? Well… there are probably a few things, but I’ll give you a list anyway!
In the past year I have only read two short stories that are Christmas themed. Funny, I’d think that there would be more, but oh well, at least these two are both really good! Anyway, here they are:
1. The Best Christmas Ever by James Patrick Kelly: a story about the last “real” man on earth, Albert, and the biops that care for him. Granted his every wish, Albert is slipping into depression and the biops try everything to bring him out of it – including throwing a Christmas party that they think he will truly enjoy.
2. All Seated on the Ground by Connie Willis: a novella about a woman who is part of an investigation into the glaring aliens that have landed in Denver during the Holiday season.
Now, go forth and read! Oh, and if you know of any more Christmas themed short stories (science fiction ones) then please, PLEASE leave a comment enlightening me!
Thanks,
-Rusty

Thanks Krishnan – you too!
China Mieville’s “‘Tis the Season” is an anti-consumerist, anti-corporate branding Christmas story. The best modern Christmas story I have read. It is funny, moving, and political, where most authors have trouble doing any one of those things well.
Thanks Mickdaddy,
That sounds like a great story! I like China Mieville’s writings, especial Perdido Street Station, so I am looking forward to reading this one.
I found an online copy of “‘Tis the Season” at Socialist Review.
